Not the Finals Weekend we had planned
Well done to all the finalists who battled the weather this past weekend to get the matches done, despite the awful weather. I heard one player, when they won the toss, say "Forget the mat, I’ll have the shallow end!"
Fortunately the weather cleared up late Saturday afternoon and all of the matches were completed by Sunday evening.

Sussex County Bowls Two Wood Finals
It was the 'glorious' first of June 2025, the sun rose gently in the east, casting beams of light over the trees of Hampden Park Bowls Club, to the accompaniment of Andy Butlers whirring motor mowers and leaf blower as his men laid a perfect green carpet, free of sycamore seeds. Swiftly early risers adorned the fences with colourful bunting and signs heralding the Sussex County Bowls Two Wood Finals. The rinks were duly set for the oncoming battles and a band of caterers commenced producing a feast of bacon and sausages for the gathering contestants and their supporters. The contest quickly gathered momentum and losing contestants fell by the wayside to produce a dazzling climax dominated by men from Sidley Martlets. The sun shone throughout the day filled with applause at good shots and smiling faces revelled in the enjoyment of bowling demonstrating clearly that the sport was alive and thriving in the perfect setting of Hampden Park amid the flowers. Simon Moore of Sussex Bowls paid tribute to the tireless markers, the culinary efforts of the clubs catering ladies and the industry of the ground staff. A goodly day had been had by all.
