The holiday town of Eastbourne is officially the UK's sunniest resort and benefits from its prominent position at the foot of the South Downs. With this beautiful backdrop, the seaside resort enjoys its own unique microclimate, away from some of the harsh weather elsewhere. The Downs around Eastbourne are recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The dramatic 530 feet high cliffs of Beachy Head give stunning views over the Eastbourne and the English Channel.
Eastbourne is famous for its Victorian buildings, fabulous seafront promenade and pier, Eastbourne also has some excellent shopping. With a mix of high street names and small independent boutiques along with miles of wonderful beaches. The town is blessed with a range of quality accommodation, from luxury seafront hotels to the humble B&B, almost all of which welcome bowls tours. If you are wanting advice on where to stay we can always put you in touch with hotels recommended by previous tourists.
The town of Eastbourne has six bowling clubs, four of which support two greens, so a tour to Eastbourne means you need not venture far from your base. That said, there are several bowling clubs within 30 minutes’ drive that are keen to welcome tourists. In the unlikely event of inclement weather, Eastbourne has two full sized indoor rinks, either of which I’m sure would welcome a few frustrated bowlers on almost any wet summer afternoon.
After bowling, Eastbourne offers the perfect place to relax. You can take in a show at one of the town's theatres, enjoy a bandstand concert or just take a stroll on the seafront and pier. The Sovereign Harbour Marina is always worth a visit should you want to dream and pick out your new luxury boat in time for your lottery win.
Alternatively, if you crave a bit of culture there is the Towner Art Gallery. And we must not forget the Redoubt Fortress and Military Museum, built on the seafront to keep Napoleon at bay and now housing 200 years of history and the largest military collection in the South East. The county of Sussex offers a wide range of country and seaside scenery including Beachy Head and Seven Sisters Country Park. Brighton, Hastings, Rye and Battle are all just a car ride away.
